Hazlehead Energy Centre consists of a combined heat and power (CHP) plant located within the original boiler house of Hazlehead Academy. The CHP scheme was the second project undertaken by Aberdeen Heat & Power and the district heating network is now connected to 200 flatted properties within 4 multi-storey blocks and a sheltered housing scheme. Heat is also supplied to the Hazlehead Park Sport Pavilion and both heat & electricity is supplied to Hazlehead Academy and Swimming Pool complex. The public buildings have a different heat profile to the flatted properties and consequently the generator can be run through the whole year (unlike the Stockethill project), thus providing improved efficiency of the scheme and additional revenue from the sale of electricity.
